The Food and Drug Administration has issued several warning letters to consumers, urging them to avoid using the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, which is the main ingredient in both Viagra and generic erectile dysfunction drugs, such as Levitra.
The FDA has issued several warnings regarding the safety of Viagra, which is sold as "Cialis" and "Viagra," and warns consumers against using the drug without proper medical supervision, particularly if they take the drug with nitrate-containing drugs. The warning letters will be posted online by a certified medical professional.
In a letter, FDA director Margaret Hamburg told patients that the company's safety alert "could be misleading," as "many of these products may be dangerous and may have serious adverse health consequences."
She said that a number of "new drugs and formulations" in the drug are likely to interact with nitrates, often prescribed for chest pain, and it is also possible that patients taking the drug could have experienced an "impaired blood flow to the penis."
While the FDA says that some patients may not take Viagra, Hamburg said other drugs can cause dangerously low blood pressure, such as nitrates found in drugs such as amyl nitrate. The FDA also has issued several warnings regarding the safety of Viagra and the other drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Under the Food and Drug Administration's Medication Guide, consumers who take Viagra and other drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction should see their physician or pharmacist for advice before taking any new prescription drugs, including drugs for treating erectile dysfunction.

FDA says consumers who take the drug "should be aware of the potential risks and take appropriate precautions to avoid these effects." The agency also urges consumers to report any adverse side effects to their doctor, who will determine if the drug is safe and appropriate for them.

In the case of Viagra, a study by the drug safety and abuse charity Public Health found that more than 30 million Americans suffer from erectile dysfunction. For the drug's side effects, the study showed that men who take it have a "very low risk of causing serious adverse health effects."
Viagra is the most commonly prescribed prescription medication in the US, with more than 8 million prescriptions written each year. The FDA says the safety warning on the drug is misleading because the company does not disclose the risk. But the agency does provide a list of "all drugs that may cause serious adverse health effects."

Last week, it was reported that some drug companies were selling fake Viagra (sildenafil) in the United States.
The reports come from a report that the drug maker Eli Lilly said it was "delve into the market for the little blue pill" and that it had plans to sell it to the pharmaceutical companies in the United States.
Lilly, the maker of Viagra, is in the process of rolling out the drug in the United States, which is believed to be the last place that it will be the most active.
In the first nine months of this year, the company said it had about 1,000 new Viagra prescriptions written, and about 5,000 prescriptions had been filled. This year, Eli Lilly and Pfizer will be adding about 3,500 Viagra prescriptions to its list.
Lilly's latest move is part of a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry that includes the United States, Canada, Japan and several other nations.
The drug giant has been in discussions with the United States government about selling the drug in a new market for which it will probably need approval. However, it has already decided to take steps to increase the list price of its drug, which it said will be on the order of $50 a month, and to increase its list price from $50 to $100 a month.
Lilly said it will be selling the drug in the United States for about $30 a month, and that it would be selling it in New Zealand for $30 a month.
"We are continuing to work with our Canadian partners to enhance the number of Viagra prescriptions written," said Eli Lilly spokesman Michael Gagnon. "This could mean that we could potentially have Viagra in the United States as well as New Zealand."
The company said it will continue to market its Viagra product as an over-the-counter medication.
Lilly will continue to sell the drug in the United States for about $30 a month, but it will be selling it in a different country for about $50 a month. The drug's maker also said it is doing business in New Zealand for the first time.
Lilly said it is in discussions with the government about selling the drug in a new market for which it has a "significant stake."
"We have been working with the government to explore options for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in this country," said Eli Lilly spokesman Michael Gagnon. "We have also been working with our partners to explore a different approach, and we will continue to do that as well."

The company is working with other drug companies to increase its list price. It is not the first time that Eli Lilly has tried to make a generic version of Viagra, which was developed by Pfizer Inc. and is currently the most-prescribed drug in the world.
The company also recently made a change in its marketing plan to treat the drug in a new country and had it sold in the United States for more than $10 a month. Eli Lilly also recently sold its generic version of Viagra to Pfizer Inc., the company said. The company has also been developing a new drug called sildenafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Lilly will sell Viagra in the United States to a Canadian partner for about $25 a month, and in a New Zealand partnership for about $50 a month. It has also been selling Viagra to an Australian partner for about $75 a month. Viagra is still only available in a pack of 30 tablets.

No. People do it, but getting it through Customs without it being confiscated depends on which agent interviews you upon arrival back in the US.
The Food and Drug Administration policy on theimportation of prescription drugspurchased abroad is fairly clear.
Under most circumstances, federal guidelines prohibit the importation of such drugs for personal use, largely because medications sold in another country have not been approved by the FDA for use in this country.
That said, your personal experience in returning to the United States with or another prescription drug you’ve purchased abroad depends to a very large extent on the Customs agent who checks your baggage upon your return.
If you’ve been honest in filling out your Customs declaration and have listed the foreign-bought medications, Customs legally could seize the drugs. However, the tendency is to look the other way if the drug in question is not a controlled substance and if the amount purchased doesn’t exceed a 90-day supply.
do allow thepersonal importation of prescription drugs that treat serious medical conditionsand that aren’t available in the United States.
However, there are a few other conditions that govern the policy on such drugs.
The FDA’s guidelines apply toprescription medications that are brought in from any country outside the United States, including Canada.
While most over-the-counter medications can be imported in amounts consistent with personal use, this policy does not extend to products that are OTC in other countries but available only by prescription in the United States.
The bottom line: Be aware that you’re running arisk of confiscation when you return to the United States with prescription drugsbought abroad.
